Five Element Traditional Acupuncture
Martin trained at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Warwickshire where he obtained a First class BA Honours degree and Licentiate in Acupuncture. He joined the Cowes Chiropractic Clinic team in 2008 and offers Five Element Acupuncture therapy. This ancient treatment has been practiced in the East for thousands of years and today is a gentle treatment based on the Five Elements - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
As a holistic treatment your Five Elements Acupuncture therapist will look at all aspects of your health to identify the root cause of your problems. Acupuncture works by restoring your own body's healing potential, and can help with all kinds of physical, mental and emotional problems and treats many symptoms at the same time.
An initial consultation will last about two hours, where a health and life style evaluation is carried out thereafter the treatment can begin on unblocking, balancing and boosting your energies. Follow up sessions last between 45 to 60 minutes where details of your previous treatment are discussed which enables the therapist to determine your follow up treatment.
Martin is an accredited member of the British Acupuncture Council.

What is Five Element Traditional Acupuncture?
Five Element Traditional Acupuncture is a system of natural healing which can be traced back thousands of years, yet still has relevance in our modern world. We all have the capacity to heal ourselves, but this process can be disrupted by the pace of our lives which can upset the balance of our vital life energy, known as Qi, and lead to illness and disease. Traditional Acupuncture works with the body's Qi to stimulate the individual's healing processes and to restore a state of balance and health. Treatment is by the insertion of very fine sterile disposable needles into acupuncture points which lie all over the body.
What can Acupuncture achieve?
By improving the overall balance of energy, Traditional Acupuncture aims to help improve general health and wellbeing by increasing energy levels and enhancing one's quality of life. People seeking Traditional Acupuncture do not need to have a specific symptom or problem to benefit from acupuncture treatment. Since deterioration in the balance of energy always precedes the appearance of a symptom, Traditional Acupuncture can also be used as a preventative treatment aimed at maintaining health on all levels of the Body, Mind and Spirit.
Who comes for Acupuncture Treatment?
Acupuncture treatment is suitable for people of all ages. Some people come with specific complaints, often when they have failed to find relief with Western medicine. Some come with a range of symptoms which seem trivial but have a significant effect on their lives.
The Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is an important step in getting to know you, your life and health experiences to date and your present circumstances and lifestyle. It will take 1 _ to 2 hours and will include a short, non-intrusive physical examination. All this information is essential in determining the cause of your problem and your individual treatment. Everything discussed in the treatment room is confidential.
Subsequent Treatments
Subsequent appointments will usually take about an hour and will include a discussion of your progress and experiences. As each person is unique their response to treatment will be unique. You may respond quickly and notice immediate benefits or you may take a little longer to feel any improvement. In order to get the most benefit from any acupuncture treatment it helps to take things easy and avoid any physical exertion or drinking alcohol afterwards for 24 hrs.
Frequency of Treatments
The frequency of treatments will be discussed with you and tailored to your individual needs. Initially treatments are usually on a weekly basis but once some improvement has been maintained treatments can be less frequent.
What is treatment like?
People are often concerned that acupuncture treatment may be painful. In practice treatments are generally very relaxing. The sensation of the needling is very different from having an injection and is often described as a tingling or a dull ache. Sometimes it is barely felt at all.
