Cowes Chiropractic Clinic – 'Helping Your Body to Heal Itself....'
Rebecca Taylor opened Cowes Chiropractic Clinic in 2002. The clinic aims to be a place where people come to have a problem solved, experience healing and become inspired to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. The practitioners work as a team to support the patients' recovery and help them to discover their body's amazing ability to heal itself.
The team is made up of three McTimoney chiropractors – Rebecca Taylor, Esme Connelly (loves treating pregnant women, babies and children) and Phil Milner (who also uses Diversified Technique where appropriate and likes treating sports injuries). Beth Caws (a trainee McTimoney chiropractor) provides remedial massage, reflexology and Indian Head massage, alongside Emma Lloyd who practises massage and skin care, supported by Environ products. Martin Harley is available Monday to Thursday for Five Element Acupuncture, Catherine Flury for homeopathy and Richard Evans for clinical hypnotherapy. Recent additions to the team are Hilary Symanns who offers Body Control Pilates and Kathy Godolphin a counsellor specialising in treating addiction. The team is expertly organised by Karen Cheverton, Practice Manager and reception is open Monday to Friday 8.30 – 5.30. Evening and Saturday morning appointments are also available.
For patients who are not sure what treatment is appropriate for their needs free telephone or in clinic 15 minute appointments are recommended.

FAMILY DIRECTORY - Summer 2011
Faking It?!
Parents often say that they were not sure if their child really had a problem or was just looking for attention. In 15 years of chiropractic paediatric practice I have never come across a child that had invented their pain. Kids have more interesting ways of using their time!
It is not normal for children to suffer from headaches and if the common causes (dehydration, fatigue, eyestrain) have been eliminated then it may well be that their neck is out of alignment. Muscle spasm in the neck can also make it difficult for a child to concentrate and if the cause was birth trauma they may not even know they've got spasm and discomfort – it's been there all their life.........
"Growing pains" or leg cramps are often a sign that the pelvis is our to alignment – adult patients with long term lower back problems will often tell me they suffered as a child.
So, please listen to, and observe, your children and if they are uncomfortable – get a McTimoney chiropractor to check them over.

COWES BEACON - May 2011
Beth Caws qualified as a remedial massage therapist three and a half years ago and has been working at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic since November 2008. As well as massage, other treatments available include reflexology and Indian head massage. These treatments can be of benefit to both chronic conditions and recent injuries, as well as an aid to relaxation. Longer evenings and warmer weather encourage more sporting activity, so why not consider adding massage to your training programme?
Appointments are now available evenings and Saturdays.
To make an appointment with Beth, please call Cowes Chiropractic Clinic on 01983 282810.
FAMILY DIRECTORY - Spring 2011
Here at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic Esme Connelly & Rebecca Taylor see many VERY new patients - only a few days or weeks old.
Everyone's route into the world is deemed to be the same but not every birth is without it's complications - long labours, the cord around the baby's neck, caesarean delivery, breech positioning etc. This can cause the baby's skeleton to misalign which affects the way nerves function and can also cause discomfort. These factors can have a bearing on the baby's future development and affect their feeding and sleeping. Babies generally respond well to receiving chiropractic treatment and often enjoy it!
Many symptoms an older child may display; lack of concentration, disruptive behaviour and poor co-ordination, can be attributed to their complicated birth or a recent trauma. In addition to Rebecca and Esme, Phil Milner also offers chiropractic treatment to children to help maintain their sporting fitness to compete at the highest level.

FAMILY DIRECTORY - Winter 2010
You wouldn't think that chiropractic is a seasonal profession but after 17 years I can safely say that it very definitely is!
The Autumn term is always our busiest time of year – whether because of the change in temperatures, less sunlight, more jobs to do in the garden, the busiest school term and the looming deadline that is Christmas, all the therapists at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic are ready and prepared to cope with the rush! Children respond particularly well to McTimoney chiropractic (good for sporting bump and bruises!) and Homeopathy (down with colds & flu!), in fact, treating babies is a clinic speciality. Whether it is simple low back pain or more subtle problems with mood or energy levels please feel free to call in and find out what might be a suitable treatment to help.
Alternatively gift vouchers are available for all the therapists should you wish to gently aid a friend or relative with their recovery. Reception is open from Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 5:30pm and some treatments are also available on Saturdays. For more information please call 01983 282810 or view our website coweschiropracticclinic.co.uk.

COWES BEACON - February 2010
Traditionally January is a time of New Year resolutions – get fit, give up smoking, lose weight... What a lot of people don't realise is that their chiropractor may be just the person to help. To explain, McTimoney chiropractors treat the whole body, and are uniquely placed to advise and support your own efforts. With chiropractic, massage, acupuncture and hypnotherapy treatments at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic it's a lot easier to exercise, maintain energy levels and motivation to achieve your health related resolutions.
IW COUNTY PRESS - January 2010
Keep those New Year's resolutions going.....
How many people have resolved to be fitter or thinner this year and are struggling to find the willpower to keep those resolutions going? What a lot of people don't realise is that their McTimoney chiropractor and, in particular, Cowes Chiropractic Clinic may be uniquely placed to help them. Most people first go and see a chiropractor because they are in pain and have a problem to be solved. Some people then realise that, once the pain has gone, not only are they no longer in pain but they feel better than they did before they had the problem. McTimoney chiropractic treatment allows the patient's nervous system to function to the best of it's ability which means that the patient is as healthy as they can possibly be. Once the patient starts to feel better they then have an additional incentive to make the changes to their lifestyle which will allow their overall health to improve.
If your nervous system is working as well as it possibly can it stands to reason that it will become easier to exercise! In addition, your McTimoney chiropractor will be able to advise you on the most appropriate form of exercise for you, that is to say the one where you are the least likely to injure yourself and therefore most likely to stick with in the long term...
At Cowes Chiropractic Clinic the three McTimoney chiropractors work in conjunction with a massage therapist (particularly popular with sports people and those who carry a lot of work related stress), two homeopaths and an acupuncturist. They have recently been joined by a clinical hypnotherapist (very good for reinforcing willpower) and a nutritionist. As the clinic team regularly meet to consider which treatments best suit which conditions Cowes Chiropractic Clinic is able to provide the individual patient with the combination of treatments best suited to their particular needs.
If any of this has got you thinking please feel free to telephone 01983 282810 or call in with any questions – free 15 minute introductory appointments are available. We'll do our best to help you heal itself!
NOVA LIFESTYLE - October 2009
Not for nothing can the birth process be described as 'the most dangerous journey you will ever make'. The passage down the birth canal and out into the world places huge strains on both the baby and the mother. Delivery by Caesarean section makes different but equally rigorous demands – few people realise that forceps are often used to bring the baby out of the womb. If the birth has been difficult there may be misalignments of then baby's neck, spine and pelvis. If the bones are misaligned they can cause pressure on the nerve roots which in turn can cause pain and muscle spasm.
Newborn babies are programmed to eat, sleep, and poo and the only way that they can communicate that they have a problem is if they have difficulties with any of the above. Plus of course screaming and yelling! Babies that will not be put down often need the warmth of the person holding them to relieve their muscle spasm. Breastfeed babies that can feed well on one side but not on the other may have a twist in their neck which makes it uncomfortable for them to feed in that position. Acute neck misalignments may compromise nerve supply to the soft palate, meaning that the baby can't suck effectively.
McTimoney chiropractic is such a gentle technique that babies generally love receiving treatment – parents often comment on how relaxed their child becomes. The youngest patient at Cowes Chiropractic Clinic (so far!) was 3 days old and our oldest is 94 years old – yes, the technique is suitable for every age in between! One of the 3 chiropractors is always available to answer questions on the telephone – 01983 282810 – the clinic is open between 8:30 and 5:30, Monday to Friday.
